A 67-year-old man from Port St. Lucie died after being hit by a tractor-trailer, the Florida Highway Patrol reports. The accident occurred on Interstate 95 near Fort Pierce.
The crash happened a little after 8 a.m., near mile marker 130, between the exits for State Road 70.
The victim was standing in front of his stopped vehicle on the highway’s northbound shoulder before he walked into the path of an oncoming truck driven by a 46-year-old man from Miami.
At present, the cause of the truck wreck is still under investigation. FHP reports show that the truck driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and was not under the influence of alcohol.
The northbound right lane of the interstate was closed for nearly three hours while rescue personnel and police worked at the scene of the crash.
